Set your alarms for Nintendo's surprise early-morning Direct tomorrow

Summary: Nintendo has announced a surprise Nintendo Direct event for March 27. The livestream will focus on upcoming games for the original Nintendo Switch family of consoles, and will last approximately 30 minutes. The company has not given any hints as to what may be shown off.

Nintendo is gearing up for its Nintendo Direct live stream taking place on April 2, where it will fully reveal the Switch 2 console, but it also has a surprise Nintendo Direct live stream planned for March 27, where it will showcase upcoming games for the original console.

Nintendo usually holds at least a few Nintendo Direct livestreams a year. However, it’s out of the ordinary for the company to have one livestream so close to another. Let alone them being less than a week apart. That being said, the reason for the event makes sense. Nintendo is going to continue supporting the original Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED for a while after the Switch 2 launches. It has also confirmed that new games would continue to come to those consoles.

So, with that in mind, a Nintendo Direct for new games for the original Switch family of consoles isn’t the strange part. What’s odd is the choice to hold it mere days from the full Switch 2 reveal. As you would think the company would want to keep the spotlight on next week’s announcement.

Tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct will focus entirely on games for the original Switch

While Nintendo has been clear that the event tomorrow will showcase original Nintendo Switch games, it has said nothing about which games those would be. It hasn’t teased anything either. That being said, Nintendo has confirmed the release windows for some Switch games that have yet to launch. As Wccftech points out, it’s possible Nintendo could show off more of Metroid Prime 4, as this is slated to launch later in 2025. Nintendo also hasn’t shown off much of this game yet, making tomorrow’s event a good time to do just that.

Either way, whatever Nintendo shows off is likely to excite some fans. Even if not every single game is an attention grabber, Nintendo is bound to have something to light a fire under Switch owners. The live stream will take place on March 27 at 7AM PT. So those wishing to watch live will need to be up bright and early. At least if they live on the West Coast. The stream will happen on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.

Nintendo has also confirmed that tomorrow’s event will include absolutely zero information about the Switch 2. And that makes sense, given it has an entire event for that just a few days later.
