Qualcomm unveiled its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, in late October. The chipmaker also deals in a sub-flagship “s” series line of SoCs. It launched the first “s” series chipset, dubbed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, in March this year. Now, a popular tipster claims that Qualcomm might unveil another SoC in this series, the Snapdragon 8s Elite, which might offer better performance than the 8 Gen 2 chipset.
Snapdragon 8s Elite SoC rumored to offer better performance than the 8 Gen 2
The latest rumor comes from the popular tech tipster, Digital Chat Station (DCS). The tipster recently spotted a chip with the codename “SM8735” on Xiaomi’s HyperOS codebase. The chipset, which DCS believes to be the Snapdragon 8s Elite, will reportedly boast performance that puts it between the 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3.
It’s worth noting that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 used the same prime core as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. But, DCS hasn’t mentioned any details about the cores of the Snapdragon 8s Elite. Not to mention Qualcomm used its custom-made Oryon cores with the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. So, it’s unclear whether the rumored “s” series chipset will follow the same or use the ARM’s offering. Only time will tell.
The first smartphone with the rumored chipset may pack a massive 7000mAh battery
Apart from the above details, the tipster suggests that smartphones with Snapdragon 8s Elite may arrive around April 2025. There’s also a possibility that those devices might pack a 7000mAh battery. Let’s not forget that the tipster previously hinted that Xiaomi could launch a mid-range smartphone with a big 7000mAh battery.
Therefore, it’s safe to assume that Xiaomi could be the first brand to launch the first Snapdragon 8s Elite smartphone with the aforementioned battery capacity. All that said, we will still have to wait since nothing is official as of now.
