Silo is one of several excellent Apple TV shows that begins with the letter ‘S’ joining other hits like Shrinking, Slow Horses and Severance (just to name a few) as must-watch series on the streamer.
The Rebecca Ferguson-led science-fiction show is about a massive fallout shelter in a post-apocalyptic future. The people in this future live in a giant silo beneath the earth in a culture that has strictly forbidden all remnants of the past. It’s a dystopian mystery with lots of surprises along the way, and it avoids the “mystery box” storytelling crutch that weakens so many of its contemporaries.
Season 2 is currently airing but we already have some good news from Apple for the future of the show, which is based on a trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey. Since the show is based on a trilogy, I always assumed it would get three seasons. And since Apple isn’t as cancel-happy as Netflix, once the second season was announced I was 99% sure we’d get a third.
Instead, we’re getting four full seasons of Silo, meaning the story will have even more room to breathe before it’s over.
“It has been a richly rewarding experience to adapt Hugh’s epic novels with our partners at Apple and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this complete story to the screen over the course of four seasons,” showrunner and executive producer Graham Yost said in a press release. “With the final two chapters of ‘Silo’, we can’t wait to give fans of the show an incredibly satisfying conclusion to the many mysteries and unanswered questions contained within the walls of these silos.”
The bad news is that this will be all the Silo we get and it’s always sad to see a show you enjoy come to an end. Of course, we never want to see something like this dragged out, but it’s bittersweet nonetheless.
The season 2 finale of Silo drops on January 17th. I need to catch up as I’m a couple episodes behind. There’s just so much to watch these days! I also have to admit that Season 2 has felt a little slow and harder to get into than the first season, but that could easily be because I’m torn in too many directions and just need to buckle down and focus. What do you think of the second season so far?
