Sony Xperia 1 VII could offer Exmor T sensors for all rear cameras

Sony launched its latest Xperia V series flagship, the Xperia 1 VI, in May last year. The Japanese tech giant is now working on the Xperia 1 VII follow-up. Ahead of the launch, some details regarding its camera sensors already leaked last year. Now, a tipster on the Chinese social networking Weibo has claimed that all three rear cameras of the Sony Xperia 1 VII could offer Exmor T sensors. If the leak turns out to be true, the Xperia 1 VII will be the Android flagship to watch out for its camera prowess this year.

Sony will enhance the photography experience on the Xperia 1 VII by equipping all cameras with Exmor T sensors

Last year’s Sony Xperia 1 VI features an Exmor T sensor on the primary camera lens at the rear, while the Exmor RS sensors accompanied the other two shooters. However, Sony could offer a dedicated Exmor T sensor on all three cameras on the back of the Xperia 1 VII this year.

According to the source, Sony will enhance the sensor technology of the rear cameras. However, the size of the sensor and megapixels might stay the same. If it’s true, then the main sensor will be a 52MP (48MP effective) lens. A 12MP ultrawide-angle snapper and a 12MP telephoto shooter will accompany the main camera.

Sony’s upcoming flagship could offer improved low-light performance and boosted dynamic range

As per the source, the Xperia 1 VII will flaunt the new two-layer transistor pixel-stacked CMOS sensors on all three rear cameras. This image sensor tech has photodiodes and pixel transistors placed on different substrate layers. This could allow the new cameras to capture high-resolution photos even in low-light conditions.

Thanks to the Exmor T sensors on all three cameras, the Xperia 1 VII could likely boost high dynamic range as well. Furthermore, this imaging tech will also greatly reduce noise in the shots.

If Sony will stick to its usual launch routine, then we can expect the Xperia 1 VII to see the light of day at some point in May. We can expect the rumor mill to share more details about the upcoming Sony flagship soon, so stay tuned for regular updates.
