THE speed on a section of the M25 has plummeted to just 14.7mph — slower than most people cycle.
And the average for the London orbital is 53.6mph, leaving drivers frustrated.
The worst section is the approach to the Dartford Tunnel.
Meanwhile new government figures show the average speed on Britain’s motorways and A roads has hit a record slow of 56.2mph.
Britain’s longest main road, the M6, which goes from the Midlands up to the border with Scotland, clocked in at 58mph.
The M1, connecting London to Leeds, has a “speedy” 60.7mph average.
But Britain’s fastest highway is the M6 Toll, which averages 66.2mph.
Figures from the Department for Transport, calculated over a 24-hour period, highlight seven main roads with at least one stretch below 30mph.
The AA’s Jack Cousens said: “Regular users of the most congested parts of the motorway network won’t be surprised at these snail-like speeds.
“It hurts the wider economy ”
