Spotify to offer ‘Music Videos’ to more people with quick switchover

Spotify is extending the availability of its “Music Videos” beta program to more people. The music streaming platform will allow users to quickly switch between audio and multimedia.

Spotify brings Music Videos to more people but not in the US

Spotify introduced Music Videos earlier this year. Although still in the beta phase, this feature allows Spotify Premium subscribers access to multimedia content from multiple popular artists.

Spotify has confirmed it is extending Music Videos and taking them to many more people. Initially, this feature was available to just 12 markets. Spotify claims it will offer Music Videos in 85 additional markets. This means Spotify Premium subscribers in 97 markets will have access to Music Videos.

Strangely, Music Videos on Spotify will not be accessible to Spotify Premium subscribers in the US. However, the platform is working to offer this feature to US citizens, indicated Spotify spokesperson Brittany Le Roy.

“As with all of our features, availability can vary across markets and tiers. Music videos on Spotify are still in beta and we look forward to bringing it to even more users across more markets, including the US, in the future.”

Spotify allows users to quickly switch between audio and video

The Music Videos feature “is starting to roll out in new markets today with a limited catalog of music videos — and will continue rolling out over the next few weeks,” indicated Spotify in a Press Release.

Premium subscribers can check if music videos are live in their location by looking for the “Switch to video” button on supported songs. Spotify is essentially adding the ability to quickly switch between audio tracks and videos using the new toggle.

Needless to say, the entire Spotify music catalog isn’t getting music videos. Hence, Spotify is adding indicators on tracks to show whether a music video is available.

With Music Videos, Spotify is essentially adopting a feature from YouTube Music. The Google-owned platform lets subscribers easily swap between music videos and audio-only streams.
