Stellantis halts Leapmotor production in Poland – electrive.com

According to media reports, Stellantis no longer makes the T03 in Poland since 31 March. However, it has yet to offer a reason for halting assembly there.

“While the company remains fully engaged in the launch of Leapmotor vehicles in Europe, at the moment it is evaluating different production options,” Reuters quotes the automotive group, adding that it is not clear whether these options include relocating production to another European plant.

However, the news agency also cites ‘a person with knowledge of the matter’, as saying that Stellantis would resume production of the T03 in Europe. Instead, Stellantis is said to be ‘looking to upgrade T03 to A-series models that will be produced outside China from 2026.’

The first batch of T03s was still manufactured in China and shipped to Europe. However, it was clear that the small EV would be manufactured in Poland in the long run. Production there then started in June of last year.

The Leapmotor B10 was also supposed to be manufactured at the Polish plant. However, these plans were scrapped earlier this year in favour of production in Spain. One reason for the decision could be that the Chinese government apparently instructed Chinese carmakers not to make large investments in countries that supported the introduction of EU tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Poland is among the countries that support tariffs. Spain has so far abstained.

The T03 is a compact vehicle in the A-segment with an interior that, according to Stellantis, is more familiar from the B-segment. It can be ordered in several European markets since September 2024. Leapmotor International offers the EV, for example, in the UK with prices starting at 15,995 pounds, and in France for 18,900 euros. The T03 has a battery capacity of 37.3 kWh and a range of 265 kilometres (according to WLTP). The electric motor on board delivers 70 kW. DC charging from 30 to 80 per cent SoC should take 36 minutes.

Stellantis acquired a 20 per cent stake in Leapmotor to boost its business in China and bring Leapmotor’s electric cars to Europe. They then founded the 51/49 Stellantis-Leapmotor joint venture. Thanks to Stellantis’ sales channels, Leapmotor International plans to have 350 sales outlets in Europe.
