Suncoast Veteran receives the gift of transportation in time for the holiday season – WWSB

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Suncoast Veteran Heidi Mondon says she feels excited, vindicated, relived and blessed, by this gift, given by SRQ Vets.

Mondon moved from New York and she says she was not particularly ready. “I kind of left New York in a hurry, so I was not very well prepared when I came here, and when I got down to Florida, I had to focus on finding a home, finding a job, getting settled in, and then ultimately, hopefully, figuring out how I would get a car.”

Rob Kehs, Executive director of SRQ Vets was told of Mondon’s situation and jumped into action.

The two communicated for weeks about possible donors and insurance, when a vehicle finally became available. “Now our vehicles aren’t always pretty, but it’s a vehicle that can get a veteran from point A to point B”, say Kehs. “We ran it through the shop, got a little bit of work done to it, and now she’s going to be getting a vehicle, so she can move forward in her life.”

Mondon says she is extremely thankful, and loves that this gift is being given to her around the holidays. “I was just feeling grateful, I was feeling grateful because not only was this a blessing but it came at Christmas time, I mean what better way to celebrate Christmas?”

This is the tenth vehicle that SRQ Vets has given away in their ten year organization history.

“We like to be the hand up organization, to help people that are moving forward in their life,” explains Rob Kehs.
