Survey shows iPhone and Samsung users are unimpressed by AI features

A new survey by Sellcell says many iPhone and Samsung users are not impressed with AI on their phones. The survey included over 2,000 participants. Most users don’t think it makes a difference. While AI continues to be a selling point for manufacturers, it seems most users don’t see the value in it.

AI features fail to impress iPhone and Samsung users

The survey found that 73% of iPhone users and 87% of Samsung users think AI features on their phones add little to no value. Survey respondents were asked about various AI tools on their devices. While some users do use these features, they don’t think AI has a big impact on their phones.

For iPhone users, the most popular Apple Intelligence features were Writing Tools (72%), Notification summaries (54%), Priority Messages( 44.5%), Clean Up in Photos( 29.1%), and Smart Reply in Mail and Messages (20.9%).

For Samsung users, the most popular Galaxy AI features were Circle to Search (82.1%), Photo Assist (55.5%), Chat Assist (28.8%), Note Assist (17.4%), and Browsing Assist (11.6%). Despite the popularity of these features, most users said they see little to no value.

Are users willing to switch brands for better AI?

The survey also asked if AI would make users switch to a different brand. 16.8% of iPhone users (1 in 6) said yes to switching to Samsung for better AI. And 9.7% of Samsung users said yes to switching to Apple for better AI. So, while some users are open to switching brands for AI, most don’t see the technology as a deal breaker when choosing a phone.

Interestingly, iPhone users cared more about AI than Samsung users. 47.6% of iPhone users said AI was an important factor in their phone purchase decisions vs. 23.7% of Samsung users. But even iPhone users weren’t that impressed with AI features.

Will users pay for AI features?

When asked if they would pay for AI services, most said no. 86.5% of iPhone users and 94.5% of Samsung users said no to paying for additional AI services. However, 11.6% of iPhone users and 4% of Samsung users might pay for AI services.

The survey found that many smartphone owners simply do not use AI features. Some said that they’re not useful, others said they haven’t updated their phones to the latest software. AI accuracy and privacy concerns were also reasons to avoid the technology.

In conclusion, while AI is being added to smartphones more and more, most users don’t think it makes a big difference to their phone experience. iPhone users may care more about AI than Samsung users, but very few from either group want to pay extra or switch brands for better AI features. The survey suggests AI has a long way to go before it’s a must-have feature for smartphone users.
