T-Mobile is handing out a free line for long-time customers

T-Mobile is back with yet another free line promotion, this time targeting “loyal” customers. The T-Mobile free line long-time customers deal appears to reward users who have stuck with the carrier for over a decade.

Free line for loyal customers

According to internal documents and sources for The Mobile Report, this offer is only available to select accounts. The internal document reads, “Targeted customers active as of March 10, 2015 who are on eligible rate plans, and who have a multi-line account with at least 2 paid voice lines on a Family Plan and no more than one free or discounted lines on their account, can get a free voice line (via monthly bill credits).”

Basically, in order to qualify, your T-Mobile account must have been active as of March 10, 2015. You’ll also need to meet several other conditions to get the free line. First of all, your account must be on an eligible plan. This means that segmented plans like 55+ or First Responder are not eligible. Secondly, you need to have at least two paid voice lines on a Family Plan. If you only have one, you’re out of luck.

T-Mobile also limits the number of free or discounted lines on your account. If you already have more than one, you won’t qualify. The company defines “discounted” lines as those on plans like Go5G Next that offer partial discounts but not free lines.

There’s also one more catch. If you canceled any line in the past 90 days, you’ll have to reactivate it first. And once you add the free line, you’ll need to keep all your paid lines active for at least another year. Also, the free line is BYOD only. That means you can’t finance a phone on it, not even in the future. This is fine if you only plan to use the free line as a secondary line or for a secondary device.

T-Mobile trying to win customers back

The T-Mobile free line long-time customers promo is already rolling out. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive a text from the company starting on the 21st of March. Only customers who get this message can claim the free line. You won’t be able to activate it yourself or request it if you weren’t targeted.

Do note that if you got the free line last week, this one won’t apply to you.

This is the third free line T-Mobile has handed out this month. It seems like the company is trying to calm backlash over recent price hikes. Whether it works or not remains to be seen.

Still, this free line is a nice little bonus if you’re part of the T-Mobile long-time customers group.
