After several months of uncertainty, it has now been confirmed: the series Ted Lasso will officially return to Apple TV+ for a fourth season.
Among the most beloved series by both audiences and critics on the Apple TV+ streaming platform, the dramatic comedy Ted Lasso was initially set to conclude in 2023 after just three seasons. Created by Bill Lawrence (known for Scrubs and Shrinking), Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, the show had largely wrapped up its main storylines and told its intended tale. However, fans—and apparently the creators and Apple too—were eager for more. Luckily, their hopes have been answered.
Jason Sudeikis Returns
Indeed, after months filled with rumors, silent treatments, and diplomatic statements aimed at buying time, Apple has released a statement to officially announce the production of a fourth season.
One of the biggest questions of the past months has now been answered: yes, Jason Sudeikis will return as the mustachioed coach who lends his name to the show. Sudeikis, who is also an executive producer, stated: “We continue to live in a world where so many factors condition us to think before we act. The members of AFC Richmond will learn, in the fourth season, to ACT BEFORE THINKING, discovering that no matter where they land, it’s exactly where they are meant to be.” The return of the rest of the cast remains uncertain at this point. However, rumors and hallway whispers suggest that Hannah Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, and Brett Goldstein have already committed to returning to Richmond.
A New Player in the Creative Team of Ted Lasso
For season 4, Jack Burditt (known for Nobody Wants This), through a deal with Apple TV+, joins the creative team as an executive producer. He will work alongside Brendan Hunt (who also plays Coach Beard), Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. In terms of writers, Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Leanne Bowen, Sara Walker, Phoebe Walsh, and Julia Lindon will return. Bill Lawrence will also continue in his role as an executive producer. Essentially, the team is all set for this comeback.
“Ted Lasso has been a true phenomenon, inspiring countless fans around the world, bringing joy and laughter while spreading a message of kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to continue our partnership with Jason and the brilliant minds behind this series.“
The only detail left is the release date, which likely will not be until 2026.
