"The apple was chosen as the symbol of the Polish presidency of the EU council" – FreshPlaza.com

The Polish apple industry is proud to provide the apples for the EU council for the period that Poland holds the presidency, says Emilia Lewandowska, office manager for Fruit-Group: “Poland holds the presidency of the EU council for six months. The apple was chosen as the symbol of this presidency. PGI apples from the Grójec region were selected for this specific promotion. These apples will be delivered and eaten at the summits and ministerial meetings in Poland as well as Brussels over the next six months. While preparing the first load, which was prepared in our producer group, we hosted the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Adam Nowak.”

The season ended on a bit of a slow note during the final stretch of 2024, Lewandowska states. “Looking at our season in general, we did notice a slight slowdown in sales in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year. From the start of our current season, we’ve seen a high demand from the Czech Republic, higher than it was in the last season, so it’s been a surprisingly good market for us.”

Lewandowska sees that after a long period of stable prices, these prices are now increasing again: “At this moment, we have one variety that is widely available, which is Gloster. Other varieties as Gala, Prince, and Idared sell themselves step by step and find their customers eventually. Prices have been rather stable right up until the end of 2024. However, right now the prices are increasing. The market seems to have been revived, as demand is better than it was in the last few months.”

The Polish apple exporter will be showcasing its produce in Berlin next month. “As always, we’ll be exhibiting during Fruit Logistica in Berlin. I really hope the event will give us an opportunity to meet with companies that provide high-tech machinery. Of course, we’ll also meet our current clients and hopefully get some more information about the market,” Lewandowska concludes.

Fruit-Group will be exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, you can find their stand in Hall 21, booth A20.
