Android 15 is out, but we’re already looking forward to the next version of the software. This is because Google has already released the developer preview for Android 16. Well, thanks to a new report, Google might release the first Android 16 beta in just a few days.
Google released the first developer preview for Android 16 back on November 20th, much to everyone’s surprise. This was months before the usual release, and it means that we’re going to see betas much earlier than in previous years.
The first Android 16 beta could drop in just a few days
Even though this news comes from a reliable source, you’ll still want to take it with a grain of salt. There’s always the chance that this could change. If this new rumor is true, then we should expect the first beta to drop soon. How soon? January 22nd!
Assemble Debug had spotted a conversation on the Android Garrit, and in it, we see some dates that stand out. One sentence read “Beta 2 is going to be challenging considering that changes are due for Jan 22…” This puts the possible launch date for the first beta at January 22nd.
The comment goes on to say that “Beta 3 changes due are Feb 19, but Beta 3 will only be released on March 12.” This basically implies that Beta 2 will come out on February 19th and Beta 3 will land on March 12th. The one who made the comment seems to be a developer or someone close to the developers.
What makes this release so significant is the fact that Samsung is set to announce its new Galaxy S25 phones on the 22nd. This means that Google’s news might be buried, unfortunately. With Google and Samsung being so tight, we’re sure that the company was aware of the Galaxy S25 event.
We’re sure that the first beta won’t offer anything significant. Since it’s the first beta, Google hasn’t had the time to develop the new features that it’s cooking up. In any case, we’re still excited about all of the things that Google has planned.
