The Galaxy Ring 2 could have a resizing structure, patent suggests

Samsung launched its first smart ring this year to great reception from the public. As expected, the company is already working on the next-gen model that will likely arrive in 2025. Recent reports suggest that smart rings of the future will have a resizing structure, and the Galaxy Ring 2 could be one of them.

The Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 would automatically adjust to your finger

One potential issue that arises when buying a smart ring online is the size. Selecting the perfect size for your finger is crucial, not only for your comfort but also to ensure the sensors function properly. After all, unlike smartwatches whose straps you can adjust, with smart rings you only have one size. However, that could change in the near future.

Elegant Hoopoe shared a patent from Samsung that describes an alleged Galaxy Ring 2 with a resizing structure. This means that the wearable would automatically adjust to the ideal size for your finger. Thus, you would no longer need test sizing kits to decide which one to order. An elastic material present in the internal structure of the product is responsible for the ring’s flexible properties. The material would be able to stretch according to the size of the finger.

Xiaomi patented a smart ring with similar properties

A few days ago, a patent for a Xiaomi smart ring with similar properties emerged. The Chinese company’s patented device also utilizes elastic materials to ensure a perfect fit for all finger sizes. This suggests that smart ring manufacturers are working on a future where buying them is as simple as buying a smartphone. That is, there would only be one ring size that would fit everyone.

A Galaxy Ring that automatically adjusts to your finger would also help the sensors’ functionality. It would reduce possible gaps resulting from having chosen a ring size that is too large. Thus, the sensors would always be in contact with your skin at an ideal distance. In addition, a product with flexible properties would adjust to potential changes in the user’s weight. It would even allow you to lend your ring if you ever need to.

As with any patent, there is no guarantee that the described product will ever see the light of day. However, given what we’ve seen, it’s possible that resizable properties are the future of smart rings. The fact that at least two big players like Xiaomi and Samsung are working on the idea is a positive sign.
