The Hormometer stick allows you to do hormone tests at home

The products announced during the ongoing CES 2025 are for practically every imaginable segment of the tech industry. There are even developments in the health field, such as the Hormometer. This “stick” from the startup Eli Health promises to analyze the levels of the hormones cortisol and progesterone in your body through a short test to offer you tips on how to better manage your health or detect potential problems, all from your home.

The Hormometer stick enables quick and easy home hormone (cortisol and progesterone) tests

Eli Health’s Hormometer is basically a wand with a collection tip. The process of using the Hormometer is quite simple, making it accessible to anyone. To get a sample of your saliva, all you have to do is hold the wand in your mouth for about 60 seconds. Then, you have to leave the Hormometer for 20 minutes on a table while it “works.” During that time, the wand’s network of built-in microfluidics will go into action. The output will be lines in a specific color that you can interpret through your smartphone camera using a dedicated app.

Hormometer’s app will process the data from your saliva sample and come up with a “diagnosis.” After the test, the stick might help you find any issues that might be caused by having too little or too much cortisol and progesterone. It’s possible that the test results will become more and more detailed over time. Eli Health says it’s creating the first dataset of its kind. However, this also involves collecting mass health data from all users. It remains to be seen whether Eli Health will run into issues from data privacy regulators in the US.

Cortisol and progesterone are two hormones that play a big role in how our bodies work. Cortisol controls many things, such as the immune system, metabolism, the fight-or-flight response, and the quality of sleep. It’s even capable of reducing inflammation, among other things. Progesterone, on the other hand, is very important during pregnancy. It drives changes in the woman’s body to prepare it for the arrival of new life in the world.

The first units will be available this month

Eli Health’s Hormometer stick will be available first in the US and Canada from January 2025. The firm will offer the device with multiple paid plans available. If you sign up for the yearly plan, you can take tests for $8 each.
