Apple just announced the iPhone 16e, and this device seems to be a questionable addition to Apple’s roster of phones. Still on the horizon, there’s the upcoming iPhone 17 series, which will be far superior. Regardless, the iPhone 16e has the new Apple C1 chip, but the iPhone 17 won’t get it.
In case you don’t know, Apple announced the new iPhone 16e on Wednesday, and it’s already looking like a mixed back. It’s going to be a pretty powerful device with some decent specs. However, its specs don’t seem to justify the absurd price of $599. It’s $200 under the iPhone 16 and just $100 lower than the more capable iPhone 15. While the iPhone 15 doesn’t have Apple Intelligence, it has a full camera package whereas the iPhone 16e only has one. Also, it has the Dynamic Island and MagSafe integration. The iPhone 16e has an archaic notched display and it lacks MagSafe.
In any case, if you’re still swayed by this phone, you’ll be able to pre-order it on February 21st and order it on February 28th.
The iPhone 17 won’t have the AppleC1 chip
The new C1 chip is Apple’s first in-house modem. Until this point, the company has relied on modems from Qualcomm. While they’ve done well thus far, we all know that Apple wants to have control over as much hardware as possible. We know the sheer power of Apple’s hardware-software optimization.
A post from Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that the iPhone 17 series phones will use Apple’s own Wi-Fi chips. Previously, the company used Broadcom-made chips. However, of the iPhone 17 models, only the “Slim” model will use Apple’s C1 chip. The others will use third-party chips.
We’re not sure why the company opted for this. Undoubtedly, the iPhone 17 Pro phones will be the most advertised variant. However, if the “Slim” gets the new chip, then there’s a chance that Apple could use that phone as the face of the series, making it the more premium model. At this point, there’s no telling. What we do know is that the iPhone 17 Slim will have some fast connectivity.
