The iPhone SE 4 could bring this archaic spec

When it comes to specs, iPhones never really stand out among their Android brethren. They typically sport much less RAM and battery capacity, which usually prompts a lukewarm response from spec heads. Well, thanks to a new leak, it looks like the iPhone SE 4 might have some pretty pitiful storage.

Tim Cook recently gave us a teaser advertising Apple’s latest product. While most people are in the dark as to what it could be, the people covering all of the leaks and rumors know that it’s Apple’s latest affordable handset. The iPhone SE 4 is set to get an announcement soon. We don’t know too much about the specs, but we expect them to be modest compared to the iPhone 16 series.

The iPhone SE 4 could have pretty paltry storage

This new Apple-made pocket warmer could sport some major differences compared to its predecessor. It’ll be the perfect handset for someone looking to break into the iOS ecosystem at a reasonable price. Also, it’ll be for people who want a more compact device.

Well, according to a new leak, the iPhone SE 4 will be compact in other areas. A leak on a Chinese retailer’s site lists the iPhone SE 4 variant with a decent 8GB of RAM. However, it also says that the device will start with 64GB of storage. Check your calendar, folks; yes, it’s the year 2025!

Apple can’t be seriously selling a phone with 64GB of storage in 2025. We’re at a point in time when mid-rangers are launching with 128GB at the minimum. What makes this worse is the price. The iPhone SE 4 could launch at $499. That’s not a terrible price for a new device running Apple silicon. However, there are phones costing just over half as much that come with 256GB of storage. Heck, for around $500, you shouldn’t be surprised to see some phones come with 512GB of storage.

Apple launching a phone with 64GB of storage is pretty pitiful. Seriously, how much more would it have cost one of the world’s largest tech companies to up the base storage to 128GB? We’re at an age where games can easily take up more than 20GB of storage. There was a point when Genshin Impact was over 30GB. That’s not to mention the storage the operating system has to take up.

We’re not just talking about games, but apps themselves are getting bigger. It’s not uncommon for popular social media apps to take up more than a gigabyte of storage.

Upgrade?

If Apple decides to charge you to upgrade your storage, it will most likely tack on an extra $100. So, the 128GB variant could cost $599, and the 256GB variant could cost $699 (speculative prices). At $700, you may as well buy an iPhone 16. It will be more powerful and capable. Also, you can expect more AI goodies to land on that phone.

As always, this is a leak that we’re talking about, so you’ll want to take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully, this leak is not accurate. The company could charge $70 more for this generation than it did the iPhone SE 3, so it’d be pretty disappointing to see such a low base storage.
