Vivo might not be the most popular smartphone manufacturer, especially in Western markets, but that doesn’t negate everything the Chinese OEM is doing to make itself noticeable. Its Vivo X200 series has been a major hit, making essentially no missteps.
The Vivo X200 Ultra has just arrived and it takes everything that made the Vivo X200 Pro great and upgrades it all. Needless to say, the camera here is the star feature, and it doesn’t even slightly miss the mark. Could this be the best camera phone right now? Probably.
Vivo Launches the Vivo X200 Ultra With Flagship Specs From Top to Bottom

If I were to pick any phone as a daily driver right now, with an unlimited budget, my choice would likely be the Vivo X200 Pro. The Vivo X200 Ultra is better or equal to that in essentially every aspect, really earning the Ultra tag it comes with.
The Design
The Vivo X200 Ultra comes with a design similar to the rest of the Vivo X200 family. That large circular camera module will catch most eyes first. The edges of the back panel aren’t completely flat; instead, they curve sharply into the frame. The screen has a similar curvature. The phone is available in a matte Red, a textured Black, and a dual-tone White colorway. The latter is the nicest, in my opinion. As expected, IP69/IP68 is present.
The Screen

The display on the Vivo X200 Ultra brings some upgrades over the screen that the X200 Pro had, while also maintaining the status quo in some aspects. Here’s a quick breakdown of the display specs:
- 6.82-inch AMOLED
- LTPO 120Hz
- QHD+ (1440 x 3168) resolution
- Support for Dolby Vision and HDR Vivid
- 4,500-nit peak brightness
The Hardware

Inside, the Vivo X200 Ultra switches away from MediaTek to Qualcomm’s ultra-powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip to max out all the specs. That comes paired with the same storage configurations as the X200 Pro—12/256GB, 16/512GB, and 16GB/1TB—except with faster UFS 4.1 storage.
There is also Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an IR blaster, USB Type-C 3.2, and DisplayPort support.
The Battery and Charging

The battery inside this, as expected, is a silicon-carbon battery with a 6,000mAh capacity. You also get the same 90W wired charging as the X200 Pro. However, the wireless charging gets a little step up to 40W, so that’s nice for those who opt for a charging pad some of the time.
The Cameras

The cameras are what a lot of people will be buying this device for, and in that field, it doesn’t disappoint at all. Vivo opts for two dedicated camera chips—Vivo V3+ and Vivo VS1—something we don’t see much at all. Each of the Zeiss-partnered cameras gets tweaked compared to what is in the X200 Pro.
- The primary camera is a 50MP unit with an upgrade to gimbal OIS. The aperture and focal length change to f/1.69 and 35mm, respectively.
- The telephoto camera still has an excellent 200MP sensor behind it, with an 85mm focal length, OIS, and 3.7x optical zoom. It is also capable of macro shots at a 3.4:1 ratio. The aperture here has gotten bigger and is now f/2.27.
- The ultrawide camera stays at 50MP, but the focal length changes slightly to 14mm. Very interestingly, this might be the first ultrawide camera I’ve ever seen with OIS.
- The front camera pushes up from 32MP to a 50MP f/2.5 unit with a 24mm focal length.

You’ll be able to record in 8K at 30fps on the rear of the phone and 4K at up to 120fps. It also comes with support for features like Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10+, and Log video recording.
The Vivo X200s Is Here Too With a Size-Defying Battery

If you ask me, the Vivo X200s exists for one major reason, and that’s to take advantage of the extra power of the newly-released Dimensity 9400+. The device has the same 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display as the Vivo X200, but brings a higher 5,000-nit peak brightness and HDR Vivid support. It also pushes up to UFS 4.1 storage.
The triple 50MP camera setup is entirely unchanged from the X200, and the same applies to the 32MP ultrawide on the front side of the phone. It does get an ultrasonic fingerprint reader as opposed to optical, though.

You get a bigger 6,200mAh battery, which is huge for a device this compact. The 90W wired charging is still here, but the addition of 40W wireless charging adds to its attractiveness over its predecessor.
Pricing and Availability

There’s nothing to suggest that these devices are going to be leaving China, as they very likely won’t. Plus, if they do, don’t be surprised to see those massive battery capacities take a hit.
The Vivo X200 Ultra will start at CNY 6,499 (~$890), and the Vivo X200s will cost CNY 4,199 (~$575). Getting them will be a little tough, but if you really want them, it won’t prove impossible.
