Three Mobile down: Thousands of UK phone users blocked from calls in massive outage

No, don’t worry – it’s not just you. Three Mobile really is down right now. According to users of the UK network, Three is experiencing a number of technical difficulties this evening – leaving customers unable to make or receive phone calls. The gremlins appear to have begun at around 1.30pm GMT and are still ongoing hours later.

According to reports from the outage monitoring service Downdetector, thousands have been hit by the glitch. In fact, at the time of writing there are some 8,000 reports flooding in, making this a serious issue.

Speaking on Downdetector’s forum page, one Three user said: “Can’t make or receive calls, not even over WiFi calling. Been over 3 hours now.”

Another added: “Can’t make or receive calls with 3 network hope they get it fixed real soon.”

Some have also rushed to social media to moan about the problems with one customer saying: “It’s been down for the better part of 4 hours now. This is beyond a joke, I see Three has also closed their web chat services whilst they deal with this issue you can’t shed any light on.”

Along with Three users, it also seems that networks such as ID Mobile and SMARTY are affected. These services piggyback off the Three service which is why they could also be down.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) Three said: “We’re aware of an issue affecting a small percentage of voice services, our team are working hard to fix this as soon as possible. We’re really sorry for any inconvenience caused. Data services and 999 calls are unaffected, please bear with us.”
