SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — Outgoing Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was in South Bend on Wednesday talking with the workers who he says will be needed in tomorrow’s economy.
He toured the IBEW electrical workers training facility just west of the Bypass and met with leadership and apprentices learning new technologies.
The former South Bend mayor told a roundtable of these apprentices he’s excited to see the type of work in our region that will impact future technologies.

The Secretary and former South Bend mayor also had a one-on-one interview with WSBT22’s Bob Montgomery on topics ranging from transportation challenges and opportunities unique to our area and what comes next for him.
Buttigieg said he wanted to highlight the electrical and fiber optics workers of the future who will help build the tomorrow’s high tech infrastructure.
