Turkish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Togg maintained its market leadership in January, while China’s BYD, a newcomer to the Turkish market, secured second place. Meanwhile, Tesla, which has suspended orders in Türkiye, did not record any sales last month.
According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), the Turkish passenger car and light commercial vehicle market shrank by 13.9% year-on-year in January, totaling 68,654 units. Passenger car sales alone declined 12.6% from the previous year, reaching 55,944 units.
Despite the overall market contraction, sales of fully electric vehicles (EVs) continued to rise. The number of fully electric cars sold in January jumped 56.7% year on year to 6,225 units. As a result, EVs accounted for 11.1% of total vehicle sales, up from 6.2% in the same period last year.

Best-selling EV brands in Türkiye
ODMD data shows that Togg sold 1,570 units in January, outpacing its closest competitor by 555 units. With this performance, Togg captured 25% of the EV market, meaning one in every four electric vehicles sold in Türkiye last month bore the Togg logo.
Following its launch in Türkiye in November 2023, BYD recorded 2,527 sales in December. In January, it sold 1,015 units, securing second place in the rankings.
Other brands in the top five included:
- Mercedes-Benz: 414 units
- KG Mobility (SsangYong): 408 units
- BMW: 394 units
Tesla, which paused orders for its Model Y in Türkiye, did not sell any vehicles in January. The company has temporarily shut down its sales channels for restructuring but is expected to resume operations soon.
By model, Togg T10X led the sales rankings in January. Other top-selling models included:
- BYD ATTO 3: 494 units
- KG Mobility Torres: 408 units
- BYD Dolphin: 302 units
- MINI Countryman: 263 units
