Twelve people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash south of Pinebluff on U.S. 1, with two of the injured being airlifted to a nearby hospital on Saturday night.
According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, a driver heading southbound crossed over the median and slammed into three cars heading northbound. The collision completely shut down U.S. 1 at the Moore and Richmond County line.
Numerous emergency crews from Moore and Richmond counties responded to the scene. An Aberdeen Police officer and a member of EMS were traveling home at the end of their work shift and stopped to assist.
One of the two helicopters landed on the highway. Five ambulances responded to the scene, two from Moore County and three from Richmond County. The other people’s injuries varied from minor to more serious. A dog was in one of the cars and was uninjured.
Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Hoffman Fire & Rescue, Hamlet Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Richmond County EMS, Pinebluff Police, and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the wreck.
