- The Electric Car Scheme has released details on the UK’s most budget-friendly electric vehicles (EVs), available through salary sacrifice.
- Models like the Nissan LEAF and Dacia Spring are now available for less than £200 per month, with the ever-popular Tesla Model 3 starting from £303.
As new models come to market and the second-hand EV market grows, The Electric Car Scheme has identified some of the most affordable electric cars in the UK, as the overall cost of EVs continues to fall.
For many, the price remains the main barrier to going electric, with 68% of Britons expressing concerns about affordability, more so than running costs, reliability, or range.
This September, prospective buyers will be pleased to learn that several EVs are now available for under £200 a month, coinciding with the reintroduction of the 2030 deadline for EV adoption.
EVs for Less than £200
For £200 a month, you could be covering your family’s monthly entertainment budget or, if you’re in the market for an EV, leasing a new Dacia Spring, which is available from £153 per month through salary sacrifice, with some cash left over for charging costs.
You could also lease a used Nissan LEAF Hatchback for as little as £195 per month, whereas a new model would set you back around £260. Used cars are becoming increasingly popular, making up almost half of The Electric Car Scheme’s salary sacrifice sales.
EVs for Less than £250
If you’re after more options in the affordable range, salary sacrifice schemes offer a variety of EVs for less than £250 per month. The BYD Dolphin is a great choice from the new car market, available from £214 per month, as more cost-effective Chinese EVs enter the UK.
Used EVs provide even more choices, such as the Renault ZOE Hatchback for £215 per month, the Hyundai IONIQ Electric Hatchback for £223, or the Vauxhall Mokka-e electric Hatchback for £236.
EVs for Less than £300
Many people spend far more on rail season tickets, particularly into London, than what it would cost to lease one of four new EVs from The Electric Car Scheme. These models include the Nissan LEAF, Mini Cooper, MG 4, and MG ZS.
The used market offers even more flexibility and includes the Tesla Model 3, one of the UK’s most popular EVs, for only £303 per month.
