Wanted woman crashes car during chase, runs from police, in Brook Park – cleveland.com

BROOK PARK, Ohio – A wanted Brook Park woman, 25, led police on a car chase, then a foot chase, at about 8:30 p.m. March 4.

Police noticed the woman’s Chevrolet Impala parked alongside a gas pump at Shell, 5918 Smith Road. They checked the license plate number and learned that the car’s owner, who was the Cleveland woman, was wanted for a felony offense in Brook Park.

Police recognized the woman inside the Impala because she had led them on vehicle chases in the past. They watched as the woman stepped out of the car and walked toward the gas station store.

Police activated their overhead lights. They pulled their cruiser in front of the Impala and stopped. The woman turned around and started walking back toward her car.

Police drew their firearm. They warned the woman not to reenter her car. She did anyway. The woman put the car into reverse, drove forward around the cruiser and took off westbound on Snow.

The woman entered Interstate 71 northbound with police in pursuit. After about 4 miles, she took the West 130th Street exit, where she turned off her headlights and taillights.

On the exit ramp, the woman’s Impala hit the side of a Honda Passport. The Impala rolled about 800 feet and stopped.

The woman jumped out of her car and ran east toward West 130th. Police sprinted after her, drew their Taser and ordered the woman on the ground. She complied, and police placed her in handcuffs.

When police asked the woman why she fled, she said, “I’m stupid.” She complained of ankle pain caused by the crash and/or the foot chase. She was taken to Cleveland Clinic’s Fairview Hospital in Cleveland.

One or both of the occupants of the Passport reported back pain from the crash. Paramedics examined them but they declined transport to a hospital.
