What Are Haptic Alerts On Apple Watch & Should You Enable Them? – Screen Rant

The Apple Watch informs users of incoming calls or messages via sounds, as well as vibrations or Haptic Alerts. Here’s why you should enable them.

The Apple Watch is one of the best smartwatches and fitness trackers on the market, and one of the features that makes it stand apart is Haptic Alerts. Every year, Apple releases new iterations of its Apple Watch and the new iPhone series. The latest watch by the company, i.e., Apple Watch Series 8, comes with advanced features like temperature sensing and Car Crash Detection, along with ECG and blood oxygen monitoring. It is available on the company’s official website from $399.

Every time an Apple Watch receives a notification from an app, it vibrates in a manner that feels like a tap on the wrist, informing the user to check the watch. Depending upon the user’s settings, the watch could vibrate once or in regular intervals until the user checks the notification. These tactile wrist taps that keep users posted about what’s happening on their iPhone and the Apple Watch are called Haptic Alerts. By default, Apple enables Haptic Alerts on the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch also produces haptic feedback for system control and when users rotate the Digital Crown to scroll through the watch’s user interface. Generated by Taptic Engine (an advanced vibratory motor), Haptic Alerts reassure users of interaction by imitating the sensation of touching or pressing a physical button. Users can adjust the intensity of Haptic Alerts if they feel that the default setting is too weak to notice. Open the Settings app on the Apple Watch, tap ‘Sound & Haptics,’ and select ‘Prominent’ under Haptic Alerts.

Users should like Haptic Alerts, especially if they wear their Apple Watch to college or the office. Since Haptic Alerts inform users of notifications via vibrations, they don’t distract others. Additionally, the Taptic Engine on the Apple Watch can generate pulses in patterns, which informs users about different types of alerts, such as incoming calls or text messages. Even when users put their Apple Watch in silent mode, they can keep track of notifications via Haptic Alerts.

There’s another useful feature called Taptic Time which helps users keep track of time with the help of distinct vibrational taps. Apple introduced its Taptic Engine with the first Apple Watch. Over time, Apple has improved the Taptic Engine to the extent that the tech is also used in iPhones. Apple also uses Taptic Engine on its MacBooks’ trackpads to provide a sensation of physical buttons. The newest addition to the Apple Watch lineup, the Apple Watch Ultra, has the largest Taptic Engine of all Apple Watch models.
