Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer will 'still drive petrol cars in 20 years' in EV slight – Express

Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer has claimed he will still be driving a petrol car over an EV “in 20 years”.

The presenter of the classic car TV show said he would like to still be behind the wheel of his classic Porsche – despite the rise of electric models.

The well-known TV host even revealed he would be prepared to “pay” more if it meant he could drive in an internal combustion engine (ICE) car.

The admission could be seen as a major dent for electric vehicles with concern demand for the models is already beginning to slow.

Mike made the admission in a sit-down chat with other experts while speaking on Car Dealer Podcast Live.

He said: “In 20 years time I’ll be driving a 1991 Porsche 964 Turbo and be very happy doing it.

“I’ll pay everyone’s tax if it needs be just so I can enjoy that ICE car one last time.”

Labour has pledged to bring forward a ban on the sale of new and used petrol and diesel models to 2030.

Meanwhile, a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate is in place to slowly force manufacturers to produce fewer combustion models and more EVs.

Decision-makers hope this will slowly encourage drivers to ditch their old models and buy electric cars.

Older petrol and diesel models will not be banned from the roads under the changes and Mike believes many will still enjoy their older cars for years to come.

Last year, the TV host stressed there would still be many used and classic models driven in more than 25 years.

Mike previously told Express.co.uk: “The alternative to that might be the film Mad Max where we are all chasing the last gallon of fuel.

“That’s what people think what’s going to happen. We are all going to be chasing each other spraying in their mouths shouting Valhalla for the last gallon of fuel.
