From the very beginning, the live-action version of the beloved Snow White animation was surrounded by controversies.
Some pointed out that the original tale presents outdated concepts like the damsel in distress trope. Others, like Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, called the tale a “backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together”. Eventually, the seven magical creatures were computer-generated, but it didn’t calm the critics. Many viewers considered the CGI characters as fake and grotesque, while some members of the dwarfism and little people community perceived it as taking away their acting jobs.
Adding fuel to the fire were prejudiced comments on social media surrounding the casting of Colombian descent actress Rachel Zegler as the lead role.
Despite all of that, is Snow White worth a watch? It’s best to find out at the cinema, but if you’re already curious about when the movie will be available to watch in the comfort of your own home, keep on reading.
How to watch Snow White now
The new Disney live-action movie will premiere on Friday 21 March 2025.
In the UK, you can book tickets via Vue, Showcase, Odeon or Cineworld websites.
In the US, tickets are available on AMC Theatres or Fandango.

When will Snow White be released on VOD?
Disney hasn’t revealed when the Snow White live-action remake will appear on digital. However, movies from the studio usually appear on digital platforms between 60 and 67 days after they debuted in cinemas.
Mufasa: The Lion King, Disney’s most recent live-action remake, became available for purchase and rental 60 days after its cinematic debut, while Moana 2 hit VOD after 62 days. Of course, both movies were smash hits, although the box office gross doesn’t seem to affect Disney’s schedule much.
Therefore, we expect Snow White to arrive on digital between Tuesday 20 May 2025 and Tuesday 27 May 2025.
Note that these dates are just estimations – we’ll update this article as soon as Disney confirms the VOD release date for the movie.
When will Snow White be released on streaming services?
As with Moana 2 and Mufasa, we expect Snow White to hit Disney+ after its release on VOD. The tale of the brave sailor appeared on the service 43 days after it became available for purchase or rental. The Lion King took 36 days to do so.
Therefore, Snow White may debut on Disney+ between Wednesday 25 June and Wednesday 9 July 2025.
There is a possibility that the movie will first appear on DVD and Blu-ray, as was the case with Inside Out 2. We’ll update this article with new information as soon as we have it.

When will Snow White be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
We expect the physical copies of Snow White to appear last – discs are likely to hit stores in 5-6 days after releasing the movie on Disney+, like what happened with Moana 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King.
If that is the case for Snow White, the live-action princess film may arrive on DVD and Blu-ray between 30 June 2025 and 15 July 2025.
