Montgomery
County is no longer a quiet corner of Texas. It is one of the fastest-growing
counties in the state, with the population increasing by more than 18 percent
since 2020. Cities such as Conroe, Magnolia, and The Woodlands are experiencing
rapid development, and the need for updated infrastructure has never been more
urgent.
Despite this
explosive growth, our transportation system has not kept pace. Roads are more
congested, commutes are longer, and traffic has become a daily frustration for
both residents and businesses. To address these challenges, the Montgomery
County Commissioners have placed a $480 million transportation bond on the
ballot for voter approval on May 3, 2025.
This bond is
not just necessary; it is vital. Most importantly, approving this bond will not
increase your tax rate.
Across
Montgomery County, traffic congestion is disrupting daily life for families.
Getting kids to school safely and on time has become increasingly difficult,
and commutes to work that once took minutes can now stretch far longer. Whether
you’re trying to make it to a doctor’s appointment, a soccer practice, or just
home for dinner, traffic delays are wearing on everyone. The proposed road bond
will fund critical improvements to help reduce congestion, making daily travel
safer, quicker, and less stressful for families across the county.
The Texas
A&M Transportation Institute’s 2023 Urban Mobility Report highlights
additional concerns. In 2022, the average commuter in the Houston area spent
approximately 69 hours stuck in traffic. That is nearly three full days each
year lost behind the wheel. This wasted time affects family life, workplace
productivity, and overall well-being. Additionally, each commuter burned
through an extra 30 gallons of fuel and contributed nearly one million tons of
excess carbon dioxide emissions due to congestion.
The bond
proposal ensures that each of the county’s four precincts will receive $120
million in transportation funding. This equitable distribution will help
alleviate congestion, enhance safety, and improve regional connectivity across
the county. These investments are essential for preparing Montgomery County to
meet future growth while maintaining a high quality of life for all residents.
Montgomery
County deserves a safe, efficient, and modern transportation system. The
proposed bond offers a smart, fiscally responsible solution to our
infrastructure needs, without raising the tax rate. With so much at stake for
our economy, environment, and daily lives, the decision is clear.
On May 3,
2025, vote YES to invest in Montgomery County’s future. Vote YES on the
transportation bond.
