WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — A Wichita woman says her faith in humanity is being restored after nearly 100 strangers reached out to help her recover financially after she lost most of her savings to an Apple Security scam.
FactFinder shared Shawna Perdue’s story last week, and many of you asked how you could help out.
A GoFundMe was created Friday, and since then, about 100 strangers have helped raise more money than the amount she lost.
FactFinder investigator Dylan Domangue told Shawna on Tuesday just how much people had donated to her, and to say she was overwhelmed with shock and emotion would be an understatement.
“You people, but I’m speaking to each one of them individually when I say this and that is thank you, just thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Shawna said.
She said it’s been a difficult few weeks after she fell victim to the Apple Security scam. She lost over $8,400, which was most of what she had saved up, and she didn’t know where to turn next.
Tuesday was different though.
Shawna said this experience has made it tough to trust people in her daily life, but your donations have gone a long way in restoring her belief in people.
