Woman, auto driver spar overbooking 2 rides at time, spark debate

Bengaluru: A video posted on X, showing a woman arguing with an autorickshaw driver, who objected to her booking two autos at a time and cancelling one of them, went viral on social media. The post was tagged to city police by an X user, and cops sought details of the incident.
It may be recalled that an autorickshaw driver had been arrested in the city a few months ago and remanded in judicial custody for allegedly slapping a girl student who had booked two autos simultaneously and cancelled the ride by his vehicle. An online campaign for the autorickshaw driver had raised funds for his post-arrest expenses.
The latest video has triggered an online debate among netizens. While some sought police action against the woman for cancelling the ride and abusing the auto driver, others urged the police to carry out a detailed investigation by hearing both sides. Standing by the woman, some questioned why the auto driver was raining questions on her even after she denied having booked the ride.
The incident is said to have taken place at Bommasandra on Sarjapura Main Road. The video recorded by the auto driver on his mobile phone shows him questioning the woman about why she booked two autos at a time. “I have been waiting for you here for long. Why did you book two vehicles?” the driver said.
In reply, the woman stated that she had not booked his vehicle. When the auto driver demanded to see the app on her mobile phone, she told him she was checking the fares on different apps. Finally, losing her cool, the woman abused the auto driver and tried to snatch his mobile phone. Sensing the situation was going out of hand, the driver of the autorickshaw in which the woman was sitting drove away his vehicle.

What netizens said
@GobindVijay: Both parties could have handled it in a better way. Using those abusive words was unnecessary in my opinion. She just had to prove that she didn’t book. Hope @BlrCityPolice can investigate both sides of the story.
@richarai: It’s the girl who is harassed here! Such a threatening environment. Scary.
@Jaysanathani: Auto driver kept harassing her despite her denial. If she booked the auto, he could have shown the booking details from his mobile app. Instead, repeated harassment is unacceptable. If Ola itself provides an option for cancellation, what’s his problem?
