World's THINNEST smartphone is unveiled: Tecno Spark Slim is just 5.75mm thick – even slimmer than a pencil – Daily Mail

MailOnline has tried the world’s slimmest smartphone – which is even thinner than an pencil – at MWC 2025.

The new Tecno Spark Slim concept, created by Chinese company Tecno Mobile, is just 5.75mm (0.226 of an inch) in width.

This makes it even thinner than the Galaxy Edge from rival maker Samsung which measures 5.84mm (0.229 of an inch) wide.

MailOnline handled the Tecno Spark Slim at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, which runs this week from March 3-6.

The device is constructed using recycled aluminum and a stainless steel unibody – which reflects my face like a mirror.

Tecno Mobile, a phone manufacturer based in Shenzhen, China, said the handset combines ‘futuristic design’ with ‘unstoppable power’.

The company claims to be ‘breaking boundaries’ with its ultra-thin handset, although it hasn’t given a price.

For now Tecno Spark Slim is just a concept, which means it won’t be sold anytime soon, but it’s fully-functionating phone and not a dummy.

Tecno Spark Slim also features a 6.78-inch display and a 5200mAh battery – which is unusually hefty for such a slim device.

It makes the battery bigger than that on Samsung’s S25 Ultra (5,000mAh), debuted in January at the Korean firm’s Galaxy Unpacked event.

Ultra-thin smartphones appear to be the next big thing among smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung and Apple.

Generally, the slimmer the smartphone the lower the weight and the more easily it slips in and out of our pocket.

Slimmer phones also draw less attention compared to the brick-like devices that create a conspicuous rectangle in our trousers.

But most of all, a slimmer build is aesthetically pleasing for smartphone fans who want to show off their unusual gizmos to friends.

Unlike the Tecno Spark Slim, MailOnline was unable to handle Samsung’s new slim-built Galaxy Edge, which is set to arrive later in 2025.

In the Samsung booth at MWC, MailOnline was ushered back by security after getting too close to the Galaxy Edge, which is hung suspended by wires.

MailOnline is covering all the weird and wonderful tech devices unveiled at MWC, the famous industry trade show held every year in Barcelona at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, Spain.

Top exhibitors include Samsung, Huawei, Microsoft, IBM, Dell, Honor, HTC Vive, Xiaomi, Nokia, Lenovo, Sony, Qualcomm, ZTE and British smartphone maker Nothing.

Apple, on the other hand, does not attend MWC and instead prefers to take the whole limelight by running its own events for any announcements.

But Apple is rumoured to be launching its own ultra-slim smartphone called the iPhone 17 Air later this year, along with a number of other iPhone 17 options.

Also at MWC on Monday, Chinese smartphone maker Realme showed off its colour-changing phone that turns from white to blue when temperatures drop.

And Lenovo has showcased some bizarre laptop concepts, including the ThinkBook ‘Flip’ AI PC which has a comically large screen relative to the keyboard.

What is Mobile World Congress (MWC)?

Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the world’s largest mobile and communications trade show.

It is held every year in Barcelona at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, Spain – and only CES in Las Vegas rivals its size, stature and popularity.

MWC usually attracts more than 100,000 visitors – although this took a hit during the Covid pandemic when it had to be cancelled.

MWC’s origin traces back to a business conference in Brussels in 1987 on cellular radio before evolving to focus on smartphones and the mobile industry.

Top exhibitors include Samsung, Huawei, Microsoft, IBM, Dell, Honor, HTC Vive, Xiaomi, Nokia, Lenovo, Sony, Qualcomm, ZTE and British smartphone maker Nothing.

Social media platforms including Meta, TikTok and Snapchat owner Snap Inc are also be in attendance, make announcements in partnership with the phone makers, as well as telcos like Orange.

Apple, on the other hand, does not attend MWC and instead prefers to take the whole limelight by running its own events for any announcements.

The theme for 2025 is ‘Converge. Connect. Create’, suggesting phone networks will be as much a focus as the hardware.
