Microsoft is now rolling out the cloud gaming feature for games you own to Xbox Insiders, only this time it’s for Xbox consoles. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced the ability for Xbox Insiders to stream games they’ve purchased on devices like PCs and smartphones. These could have been games you purchased directly on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, or through the Xbox store on the web.
At that time, it wasn’t possible to stream those purchased games directly on the console. However, Microsoft said that it would be launching this feature in early 2025, specifically in January. Christmas came early for Xbox Insiders though, who now have the capability to stream owned games on their consoles. Giving them the opportunity to preview the feature before it reaches the masses.
Cloud gaming on Xbox consoles with purchased games is only for some Xbox Insiders
Microsoft has varying tiers of Xbox Insiders for the Insider program, and according to the company, only some Insiders will have access to this preview. Specifically, those who are in the Alpha Skip Ahead and Alpa rings of the program. These Insiders will also need to be subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This is the only Game Pass tier that has access to cloud gaming.
Purchased games can be streamed on the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S. It’s also possible to stream on the Xbox One consoles. So unless you’re still working with an Xbox 360 or the original Xbox, you’ll be able to check out this feature. So long as you’re in the right Insider tier.
There are 50 games you can stream
At the moment Microsoft is only allowing Insiders to stream select games. There are 50 games in total and this includes some slightly older titles. Most of the games, however, have come out within the last year or two. This includes games like Stray, Space Marine 2, Star Wars Outlaws, Mortal Kombat 1, Hogwarts Legacy, and Baldur’s Gate 3. You can find the full list of purchased games that are streamable here.
Microsoft also confirmed when it announced this feature that more games would be added over time. It hasn’t said when new games will be added, but chances are it’ll be around the time the feature rolls out to everyone. Microsoft has also confirmed that it’s exploring the idea of an Xbox handheld. If that becomes a reality, this feature should be available on it by the time it comes out.
