Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s internal changes revealed in teardown video

Xiaomi introduced the 15 Ultra flagship offering in China and launched the phone globally at the MWC 2025 trade show yesterday. Soon after the Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s unveiling, YouTuber WekiHome posted a teardown video of the handset. Merely hours after the global launch, the YouTuber has already shown us all the internal upgrades and design changes the company has made in the new flagship model.

Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s teardown reveals the telephoto lens takes a lot of space inside

The latest Xiaomi flagship smartphone’s teardown video has revealed that the 200MP telephoto camera takes up a lot of space inside the machine. The huge lens includes the Samsung ISOCELL HP9 telephoto sensor that measures 1/1.4-inch in size. The periscope camera module takes up a significant volume inside the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, resulting in the PCB spanning almost half the size of the phone.

It’s worth mentioning that Xiaomi has removed the variable aperture in the 15 Ultra, which is present in its predecessor. It allowed the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s camera to switch between f/1.63 and f/4.0. However, the company has replaced the variable aperture with a new glass filter and enhanced algorithms. Furthermore, the teardown shows that the main Sony LYT-900 sensor of the phone has also seen some tweaks. The company appears to have made some adjustments to optimize the performance of the camera.

It’s challenging to repair due to the complex assembly

According to the YouTuber, it’s more challenging to repair the Xiaomi 15 Ultra than its predecessor. The phone’s complex assembly includes numerous screws, plastic parts, and a lot of adhesive. However, the company has covered most of the internal parts, like the charging port, speaker grille, and SIM card tray, with a dustproof and waterproof rubber ring on the inside.

A heat dissipation film affixes the main camera module and the SoC area to improve thermal conductivity. Also, the company has added a second set of NFC coils on the outside of the wireless charging coil for smoother NFC payments. Xiaomi’s new flagship also has a larger heat sink to keep the temperature down during extended gaming sessions.

Despite the large camera upgrade, Xiaomi has managed to maintain an overall sleek design. The 15 Ultra measures 9.4mm around the waist, which is only 0.2mm higher than the 14 Ultra.

That said, Xiaomi will start selling the 15 Ultra in major global markets like Europe in the coming weeks. The phone will be up for grabs for €1,499 in three attractive hues, including Black, White, and Silver Chrome.
