"You a**holes" – When Joe Rogan got brutally honest about $6.2 trillion-worth Apple Inc.'s infamous batter-drain controversy – Sportskeeda

Six years ago, episode #1186 of The Joe Rogan Experience welcomed popular tech reviewer Marques Brownlee. During his appearance, Apple Inc.’s practices as a technology company was brought up, specifically an issue involving performance dips in iPhones whenever newer models are released.

In short, during an iPhone’s lifespan, Apple eventually underclocks the processor by limiting the voltage it receives to stop the device from thermal throttling during heavy use. This helps preserve battery health, at the drawback of gradually worsening the phone’s performance speed.

This was a long-suspected practice of Apple’s, which many opined was planned obsolescence to quietly encourage consumers to purchase newer, more expenesive iPhone models. However, Apple only acknowledged this after consumers discovered the issue, infuriating Rogan.

“I’m so sour on Apple because of what they did with the batteries. That was such a dirty thing to me because everybody had always suspected, like my friend Bryan was always like, ‘Dude, I’m telling you when new phones come out, your old phone starts moving slower.’ I’m like, ‘That’s a conspiracy theory, that’s all horsesh*t. Your phone’s just old, bro.’ But then when I found out that it was real, I was like, ‘You a**holes.'”

The longtime UFC commentator is no stranger to conspiracy theories, but in this case it was not a conspiracy theory and he wasn’t the first in his social group to suspect that Apple may have been engaging in unethical practices.

Instead, he recounts that it was close friend and repeat JRE guest Bryan Callen who first felt that iPhones were being deliberately slowed down over time.

Joe Rogan has developed closer ties to the technology industry in recent years

Despite his distrust of Apple products, Joe Rogan has since developed a rapport and friendship with giants in the technology industry. He previously hosted Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his podcast, with the latter developing a growing interest in MMA that even led to him walking out with Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298.

However, it is the comedian’s friendship with Elon Musk that has drawn tremendous attention, having previously campaigned for his future Twitter (now X) purchase.
