Apple first introduced an Action Button in 2022 with the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Last year, the Cupertino giant made the button available on the iPhone 15 Pro models, followed by its inclusion on all models of the iPhone 16 series this year. Now, it seems we might see multiple Action Buttons on iPhones in the future.
Apple might introduce multiple Action Buttons on future iPhones
The news comes via Patently Apple which spotted a recently published Apple patent with all such details. The patent hints that Apple might replace the volume buttons with two customizable buttons down the line. If that happens, you’ll find three different Action Buttons on the left side of an iPhone in the future.
For the uninitiated, the customizable Action Button offers quick access to the most-used features. You can easily open an app, activate Focus Mode, run complex shortcuts, and do much more. Currently, you need to press and hold the Action Button to trigger the assigned action. A simple click on the Action Button doesn’t perform the assigned action.
The customizable button could also make its way to other Apple products
The patent also suggests that the company could expand the availability of the Action Button to other future Apple products including the iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and more. However, there’s no word on if or when will Apple launch such products.
Let’s not forget that this year Apple added a Camera Control button to the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. So, we can’t rule out the possibility of the company bringing iPhones with multiple customizable Action Buttons.
All that said, it’s worth noting that a product seen in a patent application doesn’t always mean it’ll see the light of day. Besides, there are no such rumors regarding this possible change.
