Do you ever wish your iPhone told you how long it’d take to charge? It could be a reality soon.
According to 9to5Mac, the feature was found in the code of iOS 18.2 beta 2, which was released to developers on 4 November. A new framework, called “BatteryIntelligence,” calculates the remaining charge time based on the amount of energy the phone is receiving. Users will be able to get a notification with an estimate, for example, of how long it will take to reach 80 per cent charge.
The feature is not yet activated, nor is it finalised. It might be available in a future beta of iOS 18.2 or in another update. However, it’s worth noting that macOS already has a similar feature on the MacBook.
With iOS 18, Apple has already added a couple of key new features related to battery health.
Users can now limit the maximum charge to 80, 85, 90, or 95 per cent, rather than charging to 100% each time, which should increase the long-term battery performance. It can also now recognise when you’re charging with a slow charger rather than something at the maximum wattage.
If this charging time feature is also added, it’d give iPhone users a comprehensive suite of battery health tools which should make batteries last longer and charging become more convenient.
