Your phone is now more private with Android 15

Google finally released Android 15, so your wait is finally over! With this update, Google is bringing some neat features to the software that will boost the user experience, and one of them will keep your phone more private. Android 15 brings the new Private Space feature.

For whatever reason, you’re likely to have to hand your phone over to another person. Maybe your kids need some entertainment, your friend needs it to look something up, or your co-worker wants to show you a new app. When this happens, you run the risk of someone accidentally happening upon an app that you don’t want them to. Up until now, there wasn’t a way for you to hide your apps and content.

Android 15 brings Private Space

This update doesn’t bring a ton of groundbreaking changes, but it could be a lifesaver. If you don’t want people potentially accessing sensitive apps like your banking app, health app, business apps, etc., you can use Private Space.

Just like its name implies, this is a dedicated space on your phone where you can store sensitive apps. When the apps are in the space, you won’t receive any notifications from them or see them in your recent apps screen or app list. They’ll become completely invisible to outsiders.

Your apps will be shielded by another layer of authentication, so only you will be able to access them. If this sounds familiar, we’ve seen something like this from third-party Android skins like HIOS and XOS from Tecno and Infinix, respectively. They have their App Freezer.

Theft detection

Along with Private Space, Android 15 also brings a feature that can keep your data safe when your phone is stolen. If someone takes your phone and runs off, it will lock itself down, immediately.

Theft Detection will use your phone’s motion sensors to detect a sudden acceleration and automatically trigger. Since, most of the time, when someone steals your phone, they immediately run, your phone will use the sudden jump in speed as an indicator.
