The Google Discover feed has always been a great source of some of the hottest news. You’d typically see news from major publications, and they’d be based on your search habits and preferences. However, according to a new report, it looks like the Google Discover feed will surface social media posts.
Right now, it’s tough to see how this will affect the Discover feed. This feature isn’t widely available just yet. We’re seeing it in what seems to be a limited test. Over time, it will make its way to more people.
Google could surface social media posts in the Discover feed
Did you ever want to see which social media posts are popping off while you’re thumbing through news articles? Not many people would say yes, but if you did, then you might be in luck. You might see social media posts from popular platforms when you scroll through the Discover feed.
Threads user Michael Brown shared some images of the Discover feed with social media posts dotted about it. From the looks of the screenshots, the posts will sit in a horizontal carousel, so you’ll be able to scroll through them. We don’t know if there will be just one carousel in the feed or if there will be multiple as you scroll.
From what we can tell, the feed will surface posts from Instagram and X. The company will obviously show posts from all of the biggest platforms, like Threads, Reddit, and Facebook, along with the aforementioned two. Hopefully, we’ll see posts from smaller platforms like Bluesky or Mastodon.
Along with that content, it looks like Google will also show vertical videos like YouTube Shorts. Again, we’re sure that Google will show videos from all the major sites, like TikTok videos and Instagram/Facebook Reels.
Right now, Google seems to be testing the feature out on a limited audience, so you may not see it. However, we will most likely see it roll out to more users eventually.
